Lanvin Fall - Winter 2012/2013

Lanvin Fall - Winter 2012/2013

Time flies so fast. Days, months, years go by without further enlightenment when they're going to stop. For most  people, getting a chance to have one more day co live is a gift, a big gift, while for others it can be the worst nightmare ever in their life. And obviously the miserable option was not Alber Elbaz's. After a decade being the humble-kindhearted Einstein behind the power house Lanvin, t's not exaggerated if he wanted to celebrate his entity in the fashion house with his friends (from Lily Donaldson to Karlie Kloss  took part of the celebration- during Paris Fashion Week.

The festivity was a reminder of Mr. Elbaz's ups and downs, cacophonous critique and sweet-talk that has hbeen his best friend along his long journey -from getting fired from Yves Saint Laurent to finally recruited by Madame Wang to handle Lanvin with his own vision- to make his amazing dreams of creatiing beautiful and modern woman came true. And yesterday with a big smile in his face and low-profile persona, he flourishingly put his topmost adequacy to make his celebration fizzle in everybody's remembrance.

This collection was like a free tour to the Lanvin archives. He opened the show with a parade of vivid color neoprene sheath dresses -from long-sleeve, peplum to the swirling ruffle detail on the neck- undoubtedly gave women a feminine and flattering silhouette without losing the house's signature. Then the celebration altered to opaque palette, soon as Frida Gustavsson came out in midnight blue neoprene belted wrap dress paired with matching boa clinging on her shoulder the vibe changed to be darker and more mysterious  - just like what happened at most of Milan's shows- followed by deep plunge dress with a black tiger-head buckled macramé leather belt reminds me of the tough Xena, perhaps it was a symbol of Elbaz's enacity that brought Lanvin back to its heyday again afterr a pretty long hiatus until Elbaz took the crown.

As the show progress, Elbaz continued to pay his homage to the oldest fashion house in the world. He took us for a short trip to see what he has done for the house for the past decade. An array of ultrafeminine drape dresses successfully steal the spectators' attention. It reminds me of his 2010's fall collection that he smartly gave a touch of volume and extra layer to give the young and fun mood, just like his fantasy girl he's always dreamt of. But his role as the birthday boy didn't stop there and as we know that Lanvin showis never one-note. There was an interesting element after a parade of of iridescent printed dress strolling down the runway. Yes, the boa was something we rarely seen from Lanvin and he paired it with the matching color dress and big gemstone necklace. It's always been interesting to see when a designer make an out of context   part of a show to make the attendees questioning what is going to come out next and Elbaz successfully did it in his on way. Towards the end, the giant rhinestone that we have seen before as necklace and obi now encrusted to the dress, giving the Lanvin girls a-rich-girl attitude but in a classy way. They were all in a balance proportion for an eveningwear.

All in all, it was an appropriate collection to celebrate a designer's work for his first ten tyears. Ten years is quiet a long time for a designer to serve his fatherland and for some designers, perhaps it's the best time to move on to the next level. What about Elbaz? The answer might lie on the song he sang at the closure; "Que Sera Sera, Whatever Will Be.. Will Be.. " For whatever he will do tomorrow,  next season, next year or next decade, but for now there are only two words we shall say to him. Thank You.
