Christian Blanken Fall - Winter 2012/2013

Christian Blanken Fall - Winter 2012/2013

Color clash, sunny side up feeling and lots of excitements are some of London fashion fascination, the home of unique and leading-edge fashion designers and heaven for over-the-top fashion enthusiasts. The fatuous and fearless notion of London suddenly popped in my brain everytime I heard about London's savvy or even when I read a profile of London emerging fashion designer from NJAL. But when I catch a glimpse of Christian Blanken  Fall collection, my first thought was "Sometimes being simple can actually make you standout". The sharp and sleek collection from Christian Blanken has caught my attention and he managed to clean up my brain from neon, color-blocked and over the top-ness during London Fashion Week.

This season, Blanken took his cues from The Who's sixth studio album and their second rock opera, Quadrophenia. Its story was about the life of teenager during mid 60's in London and Brighton, from teenage social life, music they were listening to their psychology behavior at that time. And from what I've witnessed, Blanken had unmistakably doing his homework persistently. The 60's elongate silhouette and his statement with the volume, texture and aesthetic obviously captured the frenzy at that time. Also a palette of white, brown, grey, black, and splash of orange accompanied by the exquisite tailoring and luxurious fabric underlined the optimism of the collection and ready to stupefied the hopeful spectators at Sommerset tunnel.

To begin, Blanken opened the showed with white fur cowl neck tabard paired with leather skinny pants, obviously he wanted to emphasize his clean design signature, and then followed by parade of sack dresses with razor-sharp cut on the edge that enunciated the architectural shape of the dress. And as the show proceed, another intriguing pieces came to light, for instance, the brown leather biker jacket which Blanken tried to reinvent paired with black mini skirt and not to forget the tailored white jacket with kimono sleeves worn over black top and paired with matching leather skinny pants are manifestations to his commitments.

For the evening wear, the designer tried to scrutinize with texture, the dresses he showed were more floating and ethereal than the daywear. Surprisingly, the vibe was also merged along the transform from daywear to eveningwear, from don't-you-dare-standing-next-to-me to don't-you-wanna-know-me-better? attitude. And yes, it was all because the seductive-naughty neckline and the cut on the bias. It was exciting to see sensuous side of Blanken and he did it excellently without trying too hard to push the boundary between sexy and looking cheap, even though there was a bit confusion on the bottom of the long dresses, but on the other hand there was a lot of ashtonishing pieces on the runway, and to see his next fresh ideas is undoubtedly on my list next season.
